nonnative x UNDERCOVER OZISM Collection Release Info

Summary

  • UNDERCOVER and nonnative launched the “OZISM” collection, inspired by director Yasujiro Ozu
  • The designs use monk workwear (“samue”) and POLARTEC fleece for warmth and function
  • The collection will be available starting November 22

UNDERCOVER and nonnative have collaborated on the first release of their “OZISM” collection. This collection is named after Japanese film director Yasujiro Ozu, a figure respected by both UNDERCOVER designer Jun Takahashi and nonnative designer Takayuki Fuji, reflecting an appreciation for Japanese aesthetics, culture, and history.

The core inspiration for the collection’s design is “samue,” the traditional workwear of Buddhist monks. This practical garment is worn during the daily chores and labor vital to temple life and Zen training. Drawing on this, the collection emphasizes warmth and high functionality with a minimalistic design.

The lineup includes a samue-style jacket and matching pants, both constructed from POLARTEC® THERMAL PRO® fleece, a half-zip top made with POLARTEC® ALPHA® DIRECT, a stitchless down vest, and a wool beanie. Minimal branding is used, found only on the items’ tags. In addition, Japanese actor Tadanobu Asano has been appointed to provide the campaign visuals, excellently delivering this heavily traditional Japanese workwear-inspired collection.

The nonnative x UNDERCOVER “OZISM” collection will be available for purchase starting November 22. Prices range from ¥85,800 JPY to ¥9,900 JPY (approx. $550 USD – $60 USD). It can be purchased at all UNDERCOVER stores, the official online store, the nonnative shop, and COVERCHORD online.
